Komin
A smart power device and app that shows what every plugged-in appliance draws, switches it from anywhere, runs it on a schedule, and cuts the power when voltage or temperature goes wrong.
komin.life Open projectThe problem
At home you can't see which appliance is drawing power, you can't switch things off once you've left, and voltage spikes and blackouts can damage devices with no warning. Komin sits between the wall and the plug, with no rewiring, and turns every outlet into something you can see, control and protect.
My role
I built Komin as my own product, from the backend and app logic to the plans and launch on Google Play.
What I built
- /01Backend API for the Android app: homes, rooms, devices, family members, and a whole-home dashboard with each room's status and upcoming actions
- /02Per-outlet readings of power, voltage and temperature, with remote on/off from anywhere
- /03Schedules, including sunset-based timing, and smart rules
- /04Protection that cuts power when voltage passes the user's limit or a device overheats, then tells the user why
- /05Blackout recovery that restores appliances one at a time
- /06Alerts for unusual patterns, such as a fridge running longer than usual or a heater left on in an empty house
- /07Free and Plus plans (more devices, family sharing, no ads) billed through Google Play
- /08Optional Windows home hub that keeps schedules and protection running when the internet drops and syncs when it returns
- /09Arabic and English
